When thinking of Texas, pictures of the beach are not usually the first thing that pops into a persons mind even though Texas is home to more than 600 miles of coastline. Galveston Island is one of the Texas cities that offers it up big when it comes to the beaches. There is a diverse selection of beaches in Galveston. Palm Beach at Moody Gardens offers beautiful white sand beaches, lagoons, and waterfalls nestled among lush landscaping. For volleyball tournaments, sandcastle competitions, and concerts beachgoers head to Stewart Beach. Swimmers and sunbathers alike enjoy Jamaica Beach located on a former Karankawa burial ground. East Beach
galveston beachesEast Beach, located at 1923 Boddeker Drive, is a prime party and entertainment spot. It has an outdoor pavilion, snack bar, gift shop, showers, game room, and volleyball courts. Live music, concerts, special events, and an outdoor bar (alcohol consumption is permitted on East Beach) add to the festivities on summer weekends. Jamaica Beach
galveston beachesJamaica Beach, developed in 1957, sits on a former Karankawa burial ground. It is ideal for sunbathing and swimming. The beach, located off of FM-3005, is open year-round. There are no facilities at this beach. For more information about Jamaica Beach, call (409) 737-1142.


Palm Beach at Moody Gardens

galveston beachesPalm Beach at Moody Gardens, located at 1 Hope Blvd., gives visitors the best of all worlds by incorporating a beach-like setting with sparkling pools. The beach is truly an oasis, with white sand, lagoons, and waterfalls amid verdant landscaping. Children will enjoy the Yellow Submarine and Octopus Slide. Poretto Beach
galveston beachesPoretto Beach, located on 10th Street at the Seawall, is a popular family beach. It has gorgeous white sand and sparkling surf. The beach also features playground facilities, eateries, and picnic areas. Poretto Beach is part of Galveston's successful Beach Rejuvenation Project. Admission to this beach is free.

Stewart Beach
Stewart Beach, located at 6th Street and Seawall Boulevard, is ideal for families. The beach hosts volleyball tournaments, sandcastle competitions, and concerts throughout the summer season. A playground, miniature golf course, and life-size human maze provide children alternatives to swimming and sunbathing.
